Competition Number Five
At the start of the evening Competition Secretary, Duncan Hill, announced that Scunthorpe Camera Club had taken second place in the prints category against Ashby Photographic and Grimsby Photographic Societies in the last round of the Lincolnshire Photographic Association inter-club battles.
We won the slide section again but we will not know if we have a place in the finals until all the clubs have competed in this last round.
It was competition number five this week, the last competition in the club’s competition season apart from the Annual.
It was judged by John Whaler, President of the Lincolnshire Photographic Association. John did “on the spot” judging which seems to be the norm these days as it cuts down on travelling expenses or postage for the competition secretaries.
In the Colour-Print section there were twenty-two entries. John gave each print a thorough analysis always accompanied by constructive criticism and helpful suggestions.
Once again, Duncan Hill gained first place and twenty points with his colour print of a Snowy Egret displaying – this print showed the bird displaying its beautiful plume of white feathers.
Alison Walker-Smith took both second and third places for her prints of The Gathering – a bee gathering pollen from a yellow flower and Last Light on the Beach Huts, a late evening sky reflected on the bright colours of the doors of the beach huts.
Again in the monochrome section Duncan gained first place and twenty points for his print Someone is Watching Me – an image of a goth-like young lady with a dark cloaked figure hovering behind her in a graveyard.
Duncan also scored 20 points with The Young World Champion - jet ski rider doing his upside down/over display.
Alison received third placing for her Storm Approaching print.
Reflecting the current trend there were only six entries in the slide section submitted by just two workers – Duncan Hill and John Naylor.
Duncan was awarded twenty points and first place for his Road Runner slide and eighteen points and second place for his slide of Great Blue Heron.
John gained third place with his slide of Divers on a Wreck.
At the close President John West thanked John for travelling to Scunthorpe to judge the competition and for his valuable, erudite comments.
