Who we are!
The Scunthorpe Camera club was inaugurated in 1937 and is still going strong!. The club is managed by a committee of seven members, re-elected annually at the AGM.
OUR ETHOS
Although the club is managed efficiently it is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and warm, friendly, inclusive ambience. In particular we make sure that the needs of new members are given special attention.
OUR AIMS
One aim is to promote the ethical uses of photography and to develop technical skills and artistic appreciation among the members.
We also aim to develop mutually beneficial links with other groups within the community and in this context we are involved in projects with a number of charities - providing photographic support to their publicity projects.
THE PROGRAMME
The club meets weekly and follows a planned programme of events that is published six months in advance. The programme includes visiting lecturers, demonstrations, competitions, outings to photogenic locations and social events such as the Christmas dinner and summer barbecue.
A key feature of our programme is the competitions; a regular one is held every alternate month when monochrome or colour-prints may be submitted. A seventh competition [the Annual] is held at the end of the season for members to submit their best work of the year.
NEW MEMBERS
Prospective members can attend one or two club meetings as visitors before making any commitment. We believe our subscriptions are the lowest in the UK of any camera club that meets weekly. Subscriptions can be paid quarterly with no added premium.
